Rough Sawn

Amber Ale, 5.7%

Light and medium toasted malts are laid upon a sweet, caramel base to contribute flavors of freshly baked biscuits and toasted bread.  Just enough Leelanau County hops are added to balance the sweetness, making this a very drinkable and enjoyable ale.



Bayshore Brown

Brown Ale, 5.7%

A light bodied and highly drinkable brown with malty flavors of caramel, biscuits, and sourdough bread are blended carefully with just the right touch of roasted English chocolate malts


IPA, 6.9%

Unrestrained and pitiless hop deliciousness.  Delicate malt base adding flavors of citrus fruits, lemon zest, and pine.  Your taste buds are about to be conquered.

Overlook 9

Citra IPA, 7%

Paying homage to the Sleeping Bear Dunes Overlook, this crushable, DDH Citra IPA is the perfect tag along hiking beer whether you’re trekking 300 feet or 3 miles to the lookout point!


Double Red IPA, 8.2%

Shacket DRIPA features a soft malty sweetness covered by a massive DDH of Simcoe, Columbus, Centennial hops. Delicate sweetness, floral and citrusy. Delicious.

The Shirt/Jacket is undeniably the greatest winter invention EVER created. It’s never too light and never too heavy! Thank you for all you have done for us, Shacket. Winter wouldn’t be survivable with out you.


Belgian Golden Strong Ale, 9.4%

Fruity and complex aromas and flavors.  The high attenuating Belgian yeast strain also adds a spicy characteristic. Medium body with a dry finish.

Woad Warrior

Scotch Ale, 7.8%

An extended, double boil produced this moderately sweet, full-bodied ale.  Pronounced deep caramel and stone fruit flavors are balanced by subtle hints of pepper and spice


Oatmeal Stout, 5.8%



Smooth and creamy.  Dark-roasted coffee aromas and flavors of espresso and semi-sweet chocolate.  A healthy dose of flaked oatmeal adds to the creamy body.

Leelanau Exchange Mocha Java Espresso Stout

Russian Imperial Stout, 9.5%

This rich, extremely smooth, Russian Imperial Stout is brewed exclusively with hops grown on the Leelanau Peninsula with the addition of locally made Mocha Mocha Java Espresso, from Nella’s So Good Coffee in Empire, MI, adding a hint of fruit, espresso and chocolate.

Hop Lot Cherry Cider

Cider, 5.7%

This Cider is a robust blend of handpicked wild apples and a hint of cherry that delivers a balanced sweet-tart flavor.

Hop Lot Sweet Cider

Cider, 4.5%

McIntosh, Rhode Island Greening, and Northern Spy. Everything’s better with a little Smack. This crowd pleaser is sweet and tart with full apple flavor.


Mead, 6.0%

A rotating tap of mead

Hop Lot Sparkling Rose

Sparkling Rose, 11%
A blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Muscat grapes

Hop Lot White

Riesling, 12%

Not too sweet for the dry wine drinkers and not too dry for the sweet wine drinkers. Candied grapefruit aromas with a beautiful soft citric cleansing palette.

Our Story

Originally from Holland, MI then later residing in Chicago, it was time for us to journey back to Michigan and create a very unique four-seasons Microbrewery and Beer Garden in beautiful Northern Michigan.  With family ties to Suttons Bay, it was the perfect location to both embrace the local beer culture while also embracing the outdoors.

Hop Lot opened in the spring of 2015 just south of Downtown Suttons Bay.  Nestled between scenic M22, the bay and the area’s TART recreational trail, we are a great stop if you’re between touring the peninsula, biking, hiking, boating, ice fishing or snowmobiling!

Hop Lot focuses on Traditional style Ales including IPAs, Blondes, Browns, Ambers, Scotch Ales and Stouts while also introducing Belgians and Seasonals to our guests.  If beer isn’t your thing, we also offer multiple wines, ciders and meads on tap.  In 2016, we were voted 4th Best New Brewery in Michigan by MLive.

The taproom also offers a year-round kitchen that rotates menus with the seasons and changing palates.  In the summer our chef will focus on smoked BBQ and other summer fare while in the fall/winter, offers a warmer comfort and hearty menu utilizing the local harvest.

While you’re here, treat yourself to a beverage and lunch or dinner in our cozy ‘up north’ taproom or spread out and enjoy the four seasons ¾ acre beer garden.  Hop Lot is extremely family-friendly and encourages parents to let their kids…be kids in the spacious beer garden.  As the seasons change, so does the beer garden.  Summer: Walk through the hop garden, play a game of bags, roast a marshmallow by the campfire and listen to a live local musician.  Fall: Sit by one of the multiple fire pits and take in the scenery of the maple leaves changing colors.  Winter/Early Spring:  Grab your group and enjoy the comfort of one of our heated and lit igloos or stand by the campfires.

If you’re visiting the area, please feel free to ask any team member recommendations for outside activities, scenic drives, etc.  Might as well get the full experience while you’re up here!

Where can you find Hop Lot beer?

We currently don’t distribute.  Be sure to ask our team members which beers are available for take-out.

Dog/Pet Policy:

The Leelanau Health Department does not allow dogs inside the taproom or in our beer garden (unless a licensed service animal).

Getting here:

From Traverse City:

Hop on M22 North (West Bayshore Drive) and head NORTH for 15 scenic miles.  We are to the left just before you get in to Downtown Suttons Bay.  (Public beach access across the street).


From Glen Arbor:

Head NORTH on M22 until you hit M204.  Take a RIGHT (East) on m204 until you hit the other side of m22.  Take a Right onto M22 and head south.  We are located just south of Downtown M22.


From Traverse City TART Trail (Biking, Walking, Skiing):

ECKERLE EXIT: Head NORTH on the TART Trail for 17 miles.  Take a RIGHT at the Eckerle exit.  Ride down to Richter and take a left.  Ride to M22 and take a left.  Our sign is 200 feet away.

FOURTH ST EXIT: Head NORTH on the TART Trail for 17 miles. Take a RIGHT at the Fourth St exit.  Ride down to M22 and take a right.  Our sign is 500 feet away.

You'll find him with mash paddle in one hand, and a fishing pole in the other. Steve is a graduate of the Siebel Institute of Technology/World Brewing Academy with an Associates in Brewing Technology. In addition, he has earned degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, with a B.S. in Pre-med and Exercise Physiology.

What you might not know: Steve is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a USA Triathlon Coach, and licensed pilot. Most importantly, he can play some crazy, awesome Meatloaf on the piano.
