A film crew from McCann Erickson, a production company which films the popular ‘Pure Michigan’ commercials, traveled across the state last summer filming scenes for an upcoming national campaign. Hop Lot Brewing Co., in Suttons Bay, made the cut as one of the stops to be featured in the upcoming commercials. The premise of the two commercials that are airing this spring and summer on various TV networks, are the growing Michigan Craft Beer scene and the resurgence of road trips.
“We were honored when we heard the Lansing committee chose us as one of the featured Michigan breweries in the Pure Michigan ad campaign” said Drew Lutke, co-owner & Taproom GM of Hop Lot Brewing Co. “The film crew stumbled upon our brewery and approached us as we were leaving for dinner in late July. Thankfully, we weren’t in any rush” explains Steve Lutke, co-owner & Head Brewer of Hop Lot Brewing Co. “They asked if they could scout and photograph the taproom and beer garden for potential shots to present to the Pure Michigan Committee in Lansing” said Drew. “I received a call almost a week later from the production company notifying us that the committee chose our brewery and filming was slated for mid-August”. Other local businesses and destinations were scouted and included in the filming.
Hop Lot Brewing Co.’s ‘Up North’ beer garden, fire pits, taproom and hand crafted brews arrived to the booming Traverse City area Craft Beer scene last April. “We could not have asked for a better start” said Steve Lutke. “The weather cooperated with us last summer and into the fall, extending the use of our beer garden”. The brewery’s unique beer garden features a hop garden, fire pit, yard games and plenty of seating for adult and family fun in it’s ¾ acre lot. “We continue to see guests outside by the campfires, especially during snow storms” said Drew Lutke. “There’s a reason why we all live here, it’s to embrace all four seasons”.
Hop Lot increased it’s production capacity in March by replacing it’s current 3 bbl system with a 10 bbl system.
